Dated - April 12, 2013
There are two key events next week in the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute (TBSI) that may be of interest to researchers and students in RCSI.
All are most welcome and there is no charge for attendance.
April 15th: TBSI is hosting a major symposium entitled ‘Metabolism and Metabolic Diseases’.
The Provost will be opening the event and then we have international speakers at the cutting edge of this area, along with speakers from the Schools of Biochemistry and Immunology, Chemistry and Medicine. It’s an area of biomedicine that is burgeoning. We’ve asked the speakers to make their talks accessible and we are confident that you will enjoy them and get something out of them. We are also celebrating the work of Prof John Scott on folic acid, since John’s work in many ways typifies what TBSI hopes to achieve. The poster for the Symposium and the speaker schedule are on the TBSI website https://www.tcd.ie/biosciences/assets/pdf/metabolism_lecturer_schedule_cl_bios_link.pdf
April 16th : The 2nd Irish NMR Meeting and launch of the TBSI 800MHz NMR facility.
This event consists of an update on NMR technology with highly- respected speakers such as Göran Karlsson, Christina Redfield, and Phil Williamson, as well as all of the NMR-related PIs in Ireland and Northern Ireland who will give short summaries of their current research to serve as a sampler of Irish NMR activities/capabilities.
This event will mark the official launch of our 800MHz NMR facility. TCD has a strong NMR capability including two 400MHz units, a 600MHz unit and now the 800MHz which is equipped with multiple probes including an exceptional cold probe. The 800MHz NMR is one of a handful of such units available in Europe and gives options for analytical investigation in Ireland that were hitherto impossible. Expert technical assistance to configure tests and interpret results is also available.
