Consulting for Industry

RCSI permits RCSI employees to engage in certain consulting activities with third parties in order to expand and maintain their professional competence, keep abreast of developments and innovation in business and the professions, and  to support the Irish economy and enhance the reputation of RCSI (“Approved Consulting Activities”).

Employees wishing to engage in Approved Consulting Activities are required to contact RCSI’s Head of Strategic Initiatives & Industry Partnerships (Seamus Browne) at the earliest opportunity prior to discussing Approved Consulting Activities in detail with the third party.

Due to the broad nature of consulting activities and the wide variety of factors (economic, geographic and otherwise) that may influence cost, each consultancy engagement should be priced on an individual basis. The cost of performing the consultancy activities agreed with the client must reflect the full commercial rate/market value of performing the work in order to comply with EU State Aid Rules.

Factors to consider when pricing Approved Consulting Activities include:

  1. The daily rate chargeable by the RCSI consultant must be market rate.
  2. VAT must be added at the prevailing rate.
  3. The full economic cost of access to equipment, facilities, and personnel has been included;
  4. Appropriate provision has been made for expenses (e.g. travel, materials, and subsistence) that will be incurred in carrying out the work.

It is important that all consultancy engagements are costed and priced appropriately to ensure compliance with EU State Aid Rules and to protect RCSI’s brand value. RCSI’s Head of Industry Partnerships will be able to provide you with detailed advice and support in relation to all aspects of Approved Consultancy Activities.
