International Engagement Framework

RCSI has a range of supports available to guide you in your international endeavours. Our International Engagement Framework outlines of the levels and types of international engagement, including ideas on how to become more internationally focused and case studies for each level of engagement.

Events

One effective way of engaging with new or existing collaborators for those wishing to build or strengthen their networks, is by inviting them to speak at a seminar or attend a high quality event hosted by RCSI (virtual or in person).

We have developed an RCSI Event Guidelines to help guide you through some of the logistical points of hosting high impact events – a must read for anyone embarking on event organising of any size.

Download the Event Guidelines here.

Collaborate Initiative

An initiative to support international engagement is now available through the Insights & Planning Office. This scheme replaces the earlier Engagement Forum and Travel Fellowship schemes. The Collaborate Initiative is designed to create flexible funding opportunities to support the following type of international engagement/reputation activities:

  • Hosting a research collaboration meeting at RCSI
  • Supporting larger research meetings where international reputation enhancement opportunities exist and can be leveraged
  • Travel Fellowships to support new collaborations, especially in relation to Horizon Europe, Brexit opportunities or new research collaboration aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals
  • Research Engagement Forums
  • Shorter travel  to  international  research  meetings  for  new  or  enhanced  research collaboration (where alternative funding sources are not available. Information on the Conference Participation Fund can be found here).

Further information on criteria, eligibility and how to submit can be found here: RCSI Collaborate Initiative and the link for applications is available here.

Mobility Opportunities

There are significant staff and student mobility funding opportunities available through programmes such as Erasmus and Fulbright (see below), COST Actions (create or join one), Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships, MSCA Staff Exchanges, EMBO Scientific Exchange Grants. For postgraduate researchers there is a substantial list of postgraduate opportunities on Moodle and the SPGS Secondment awards. Ensure you are on the ORI emailing lists for funding opportunity dissemination and set up funding alerts in the research funding database, ResearchConnect.
