Meet the FSEM Team

Dean: Dr Philip Carolan, MB. BCH BAO (NUI) LRCPS&I, AFRCSI, FFSEM, FFSEM(UK) Dip SEM GB&I

Dr Carolan works as a Consultant in Sports & Exercise Medicine in the Sports Surgery Clinic Santry. His specialist interest is groin injuries, tendonopathy and improving medical education pathways for all involved in Sports and Exercise medicine. He is a Fellow of both the Faculty of Sports & Exercise Medicine in Ireland and the UK. He is a Past Dean of the Faculty of Sports & Exercise Medicine RCSI & RCPI, holding the position for 3 year from 2008-2011. He is on the Examiners panel for the FSEM (UK) exams and is external examiner for the FSEM/ICGP joint MSK Diploma exam. He is medical director for the Cavan GAA and is team doctor to the Senior and U21 football teams. He is past team doctor to the Ulster Railway Cup team in GAA from 2001 to 2005. He is a member of the Medical Scientific and Welfare committee in Croke Park and past Chairman of the Gaelic Games Doctors Association. He was a past member of the Irish Heart Foundation committee on Sudden Cardiac Death in general population and sport. Over his time as a member of the Faculty Board, he has worked as Honorary secretary (two occasions), Vice Dean, PCS Manager (two occasions) and joint ASC chairman (two occasions).

Vice-Dean / Membership Secretary: Dr Mick Molloy MFSEM(UK) FRCEM FFSEM MSc Dip SpMed

Dr Molloy is a Consultant Emergency Physician at Wexford General Hospital and Disaster Medicine Specialist and Research Director at the Beth Israel Deaconess Fellowship in Disaster Medicine based in Boston, Massachussetts. A former medical officer with Connacht Mens Rugby and Leinster Ladies having previously played Rugby union for Gorey, Old Belvedere and UCD while an undergraduate, and Rugby League for Dublin Blues, Leinster and Ireland. Dr Molloy has served as Medical officer at two Rugby league World Cups and as Chairman of Rugby League Ireland for 6 years. Dr Molloy coaches under- age Rugby union at Old Belvedere and takes a keen interest in under age player welfare and injury prevention/health promotion. He provides ringside medical cover at professional boxing and mixed martial arts in Ireland and has been appointed by two Ministers for Health to the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council responsible for setting the standards for pre-hospital care in Ireland.

Honorary SecretaryDr Robert Kelly MD MBA FRCPI FACC FESC FFSEM

Dr Kelly is a Consultant Cardiology & Lifestyle Medicine, Beacon Hospital. He is a Consultant in Cardiology for over 10 years practicing in Ireland. Dr Kelly trained all over world with several distinctions, awards and publications. He is Ireland’s clinical lead for European Lifestyle Medicine Organization. Dr Kelly’s interest is in heart disease, from treatment to prevention. He runs a Lifestyle Medicine program to help anyone and everyone to deal with stress, sleep, activity and nutrition to prevent, treat and reverse disease and ill health. He is also involved and interested in connected health and wearable technology as part of lifestyle medicine.

Treasurer: Dr Suzi Clarke MB, MRCPI, MSc (Sports Medicine), FFSEM

Dr Suzi Clarke is a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine and a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. She has previously served as Honorary Secretary to the Board from 2012- 2015. She currently works as a consultant sports medicine physician and lead for musculoskeletal medicine in VHI SwiftCare. She previously worked as a specialist in sports medicine in the emergency department at St Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin from 2011-2019.  She has worked as Team Doctor for the FAI senior, U19 and U17 women’s team and is a member of the FAI medical committee. She has also worked as medical officer for Irish Hockey and also as Team Doctor for Irish Athletics and Swim Ireland. She was a member of the medical staff for the Irish team at the London Olympics in 2012.

Faculty Administrator: Ms Stephanie Billault

Stephanie is responsible for the day to day running of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine’s office, providing administrative support to the Faculty Officers, Board and Committee Members. She supports the online Professional Competence Scheme (PCS) in Sports and Exercise Medicine, the HST SEM programme, the annual subscriptions, the conferring ceremonies and board elections. She also leads a number of key projects in the Faculty, assists the board with accreditation/QA submissions, and is the main point of contact for our Fellows and Members.

Hours of work – Monday to Friday (7.30am to 3.30pm)

CPD Co-ordinator: Ms Annemarie Creighton

Annemarie currently works in the FSEM office as the CPD Co-ordinator on a part-time basis. She is responsible for supporting the organising of all FSEM CPD activities, including the Annual Scientific Conference. She also provides administrative support to the FSEM Education Committee, and deals with all general enquiries.

Hours of work – Monday to Wednesday (9am to 5pm) and half day on Thursday (morning/afternoon)
