About us

Welcome to the School of Nursing & Midwifery.

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the School of Nursing & Midwifery. Educating future leaders in healthcare delivery and related research is at the core of our mission. We are committed to providing our students with outcome-focused curricula and with developing professionalism, shaped by innovative teaching and learning practices. We aspire to become recognised leaders in the provision of health sciences education both nationally and internationally.

Building on the heritage of the Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery, the School provides postgraduate education to nurses and midwives across a wide variety of diverse clinical specialities. We work closely with our key stakeholders to ensure that the programmes we deliver are responsive to the ever changing health care arena, such that upon completion of our programmes, our students are empowered to actively embrace the clinical and leadership demands faced in everyday clinical practice.

Studying at the School of Nursing & Midwifery RCSI will provide you with a uniquely rewarding and unforgettable educational experience. As a school focussed solely on postgraduate education, we have a wealth of experience which we intertwine within our education curriculum to ensure a clinically relevant education experience. Our staff are a highly motivated and dynamic team, who collectively bring a strong clinical, research and education expertise to our education philosophy. Our leadership approach is to inspire and motivate others to achieve their potential, within an environment of mutual trust and confidence.

We provide programmes across the spectrum of nursing and midwifery specialities and we aim to accommodate both students who wish to follow short learning courses and those wishing to pursue study to formal award levels. We have long established partnerships with a number of large hospitals and health service agencies for the development and delivery of clinically focused education.

Taking into account the needs of busy healthcare professionals, all of our programmes are delivered using a blended learning approach. This involves a mix of traditional classroom based teaching with online computer-mediated learning thereby increasing accessibility and allowing students to control the pace of learning themselves. We also collaborate with other departments of the College for multidisciplinary education and research purposes.

Our active funded research agenda, in range of clinically focused areas, is translated into our education programmes ensuring a solid evidence based approach.

Prof. Zena Moore, Head of the School of Nursing & Midwifery
