Transfer of Awards

Where a Principal Investigator (PI) takes up an appointment at RCSI or another Research Institution, it may be necessary to transfer existing research awards, contracts, personnel and/or samples or data from one to the other.  It is the practice of RCSI to facilitate such transfers in line with Funding Agency and Institutional policies.

Whether the PI is incoming or outgoing, both processes begin with a request for information.

INCOMING: PI Transferring to RCSI from Another Institution

When joining RCSI, PIs may need to transfer existing awards, contracts, personnel and/or samples/data from their current institution to RCSI. This process begins with a request for information by Human Resources (HR) at the time of issuing the contract of employment. At this stage, the PI will be requested to complete and return a “Transfer of Awards: Incoming PI Checklist” which will inform the necessary requirements. Additional information may be requested by the Office of Research & Innovation based on the responses provided.

OUTGOING: PI Transferring from RCSI to Another Institution

PIs taking up an appointment in another institution may need to transfer existing awards, contracts, personnel and/or samples/data from RCSI to their NEW place of employment. This process again begins with a request for information by the Office of Research & Innovation to ensure all funding agency and institutional requirements are met. Please complete the below “Transfer of Awards: Outgoing PI Checklist” and return it to researchadministration@rcsi.ie in order to assess the requirements for transfer. Additional information may be requested by the Office of Research & Innovation based on the responses provided.
