Council

Council is the governing body of RCSI, composed of 21 surgeons who are Fellows of the College and are elected by the College’s Fellows and Members.

Council meets regularly during the year and meetings are chaired by the President. Council delegates functions to the Medicine & Health Sciences Board (Degree Awarding Activities), the Surgery and Postgraduate Faculties Board (Professional Training) and Finance and Audit Committees. The significant activities of these boards and committees are reported to Council on a regular basis.

Matters reserved for Council include:

  • Appointment of CEO and Senior Management Team (Exceptions are the academic appointments of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and Director of Research who shall be appointed by the Medicine and Health Sciences Board)
  • Approval of overall RCSI Strategic Plan
  • Approval of overall RCSI Financial Accounts
  • Approval of overall RCSI Annual Budget
  • Approval of acquisition or disposal of assets
  • Approval of borrowings
