What is Better RCSI?

‘Better RCSI’ is a staff development programme that aims to build an RCSI that is:

  • Better for our students
  • Better for our staff
  • Better for healthcare

Better RCSI seeks to develop strong quality and process improvement capabilities across the organisation, by empowering staff and creating a culture of continuous improvement. It is underpinned by our core values of respect, innovation, scholarship and collaboration and it will support us to work together to continually innovate and design a Better RCSI.

Why is it important now?

RCSI finds itself at a critical inflection point in its long history, at the intersection of tremendous opportunity but also real challenges in our marketplace.

Healthcare education and research offer much reason for optimism and yet know that the competition for that future is growing in both quantity and quality. We must adapt, we must be innovative and above all, we must deliver what the future demands.

This calls for us all to constantly re-look at what we are doing and how we are doing it to ensure we are delivering what is truly valued and at the highest quality.

How will it help me make a difference?

The programme aims to support us to innovate and design new or improved processes, reducing non-value work, frustration and effort. This approach aims to free up our time to support higher value activities to better support both our students and customers.

How it is delivered?

Better RCSI is delivered through a combination of in-house support from our Quality and Process Improvement Centre (QPIC) team in partnership with an external training provider. The programme will support individuals and teams to work together to apply their quality and process improvement skillsets and learnings to real departmental or cross-departmental improvement projects that make a positive difference to what we do every day.
