First Aid and Emergency Information

All of us here in RCSI have a “Duty of Care” for our own safety, health and welfare.  We have a number of plans in place to ensure our safety including first aid measures, chemical spills procedures, fire evacuation procedures etc.

Please make yourself familiar with our Emergency Evacuation Procedure.  If you work in a lab environment check out the local emergency procedures associated with your work.

First Aid

All minor injuries can be treated by a first aider in your building.  All of RCSI’s  Security Team are trained in Occupational First Aid and deal with any emergency response.  There may also be a number of trained first aiders in your department so find out who they are.

First aid boxes are located in each building mainly at Security Desks.  You may also have a first aid box in your office, lab, canteen, kitchenette etc. Please check your area for the nearest first aid station.  For first aid box supplies email safety@rcsi.ie

If you receive first aid treatment, please fill in this Injury Report Form.  (We gather this information to ensure your health and welfare and to look for trends and see if we can improve on health and safety controls in our workplaces)

Emergency Evacuation

Once you hear a verbal command (123 SSG only) or a bell (all other buildings), please immediately leave the building you are in and proceed to the nearest assembly point.  See below.  A local evacuation may occur, for example, where a low risk chemical spill is contained in an area which can be safely cordoned off.

For further information check out the Fire Evacuation Notices and Emergency Information on notice boards and at lift lobby’s throughout the College. Remember there may be a bell test in your building each week.  This test will be same day and same time each week – no need to evacuate during this test.
