Professional Education and Learning Programme

The principal objective of this section within Surgical Affairs is to align all our non-training education programmes under one group making the interactions with all stake holders more streamlined, efficient and user friendly.

RCSI recognises the responsibility in supporting NCHDs at all stages of their careers and meeting their professional development and training needs.

Continuous Professional Development Support Scheme (CPDSS) – We have developed an extensive programme of over 75 courses, based on feedback from NCHDs across the health service.  It is designed in such a way that NCHDs can choose and plan a portfolio of education to meet their career and development needs. The courses cover a broad range of development areas including Surgical & Technical Skills, Emergency Medicine, Computers for Doctors, Personal Development, Quality Improvement & Clinical Audit, Research, Human Factors & Patient Safety.  This programme is free-of-charge to NCHDs enrolled in the scheme working in the HSE.   Doctors enrolled have a credit limit of three classes or 20 CPD credits, set by HSE NDTP and laid out in the Guidance Document.  Should a doctor wish to attend further classes they must pay a fee is €300
