Policies and procedures

The Information Technology policies apply to all users that access or use any part of the RCSI IT landscape (this includes the RCSI network, computers, intranet, Email, applications, services etc). The objectives of the IT policy are:

  • Provide and maintain a safe and secure IT environment.
  • Protect the IT assets of the College
  • Ensure value and ROI for the College investment in IT
  • Ensure compliance with legislation.

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is responsible for defining and maintaining the IT Policies in RCSI. Senior Management and the College Council are responsible for approving it.

It is the responsibility of each individual user to ensure their understanding of and compliance with this and associated policies. Such responsibility is part of a member of staff’s contract of employment and a student’s contract to study. All other users are required to sign the agreement – see Appendix 1.

One of the main objectives of the RCSI Information Technology Department is to provide a technology infrastructure and landscape that enables innovation along with the development and support of information systems in the areas of research, learning, administration and management.

These IT policies are intended to facilitate the smooth and consistent running of systems and services in support of this objective.
