Consilio Manuque Student Awards Ceremony, 9 February 2021

The RCSI motto Consilio Manuque (meaning Scholarship and Dexterity) signals what is central to RCSI’s mission – first-class academic educational approaches and achievements in tandem with excellence in the technical and clinical skills needed across the healthcare and health sciences disciplines. The motto is particularly pertinent in the annual celebration of the best academic scholarship and clinical skills of our leading students in the undergraduate Schools of Medicine, Physiotherapy and Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences. Fellows, Members & Diplomates Conferring Ceremony, 5 July 2021

Over 700 Fellows, Members and Diplomates were conferred virtually from RCSI and the Faculties of Radiologists, Sports & Exercise Medicine and Dentistry. Watch it back 

Postgraduate Academic Awards Conferring Ceremony, 25 May 2021

46 graduands are conferred from RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences from a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Including: Professional Certificate in Research Practices – Degree of Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) – Degree of Master of Science (MSc) in Physician Associate Studies – Degree of Master of Science (MSc) – Degree of Master of Science (MSc) in Human Factors in Patient Safety – Degree of Master of Surgery (MCh) by Module – Degree of Master of Surgery (MCh) by Research – Degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) – Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). At this ceremony an Honorary Doctorate award was bestowed upon Professor Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell, Visiting Academic and Professorial Fellow, Mansfield College, University of Oxford  Watch it back.

School of Medicine Conferring Ceremony, including the Honorary Doctorate award, Friday, 28 May 2021

321 future doctors from 33 countries around the world donned caps and gowns to graduate from RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences at a virtual conferring ceremony.  An Honorary Doctorate Award was bestowed upon Professor Martin Seligman, Zellerbach Family Professor of Psychology and Director of the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania. RCSI Honorary Fellowship Conferring upon Dr Tony Holohan, 10 June 2021

On 10 June, Ireland’s Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan received an Honorary Fellowship from the RCSI, in recognition of his outstanding leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Watch it back.

Results Reading 2021

School of Medicine Results Reading, Class of 2021, 13 May 2021

More than 300 RCSI medicine students received their results at a virtual Results Day celebration on Thursday, 13 May 2021. The ceremony incorporated the tradition of a live results reading. Watch it back.

Emily Winifred Dickson Award, 8 September 2021
Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Former President of Liberia and Africa’s first elected female head of state, was presented with the Emily Winifred Dickson award at a virtual ceremony in September 2021. As part of the ceremony, Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf delivered a guest address followed by a Q&A discussion with Professor Mark Shrime, O’Brien Chair of Global Surgery, Institute of Global Surgery at RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences. Institute of Global Surgery Launch, 12 March 2021
The Institute of Global Surgery was formally launched by RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences in March 2021 via a webinar. The aim of the institute is to lead global efforts to ensure equity for patients in need of surgical care. Speakers included: Dr Gary Parker, CMO, m/v Africa Mercy, Mercy Ships, Dr Phyllis P. Kisa, Paediatric Surgeon, Kampala, Uganda, Dr Geoffrey C. Ibbotson, General Surgeon, Senior Health Consultant at UNITAR and Executive Lead, Global Surgery Foundation and Professor Mark Shrime, O’Brien Chair of Global Surgery, RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Postgraduate Academic Awards Conferring, 20 November 2020
Over 300 graduands were conferred virtually from RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences  receiving Professional Diplomas, Postgraduate Certificates, Postgraduate Diplomas, Degree of Master of Surgery (MCh) and Degree of Master of Science (MSc).  The conferring ceremony included the awarding of Honorary Doctorate (DSc) upon Dr Richard Horton, Editor-in-Chief of The Lancet.

Primary Healthcare and Postgraduate Academic Awards Conferring, 19 November 2020
Over 200 graduands were conferred virtually from RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Programmes include Medicine, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, PG certificates and diplomas in Health Professions Education, MSc, MD and PhD.  The conferring ceremony included the awarding of Honorary Doctorate (DSc) upon Dr Mary D’Alton, Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Willard C. Rappleye Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Columbia University Medical Centre, USA.

School of Nursing and Midwifery Conferring Ceremony, 20 November 2020
Over 550 graduands were conferred virtually from the School of Nursing and Midwifery, RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences. Programmes included BSc, Postgraduate Certificates, Postgraduate Diploma and Master of Science (MSc) awards.  The conferring ceremony included the awarding of Honorary Doctorate (DSc) upon Ms Katie Elizabeth Piper, Best-selling international author, TV presenter and charity campaigner.  Watch it back

Undergraduate White Coat Ceremony, 28 October 2020

The White Coat Ceremony is undertaken as a commencement ceremony for all medicine, physiotherapy, pharmacy students and physician associates – to mark their new role as student health professionals. Students are invited by Professor P Ronan. O’Connell, RCSI President, to make a commitment to professionalism that mirrors the graduates’ declaration recited at their conferring day, and that signals the responsibilities they must begin to undertake as trainee health professionals from the start of their programmes. Launch of the Centre for Positive Psychology and Health, 1 October 2020
The world’s first academic centre for positive psychology and lifestyle medicine was launched by RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences in 2020. The new Centre for Positive Psychology and Health will apply the scientific principles of positive psychology and lifestyle medicine to enhance the health and happiness of people in Ireland and around the world.
