The role of the Instructional Designer, particularly in further and higher education, is relatively new and has evolved considerably in its short history (Conole, 2004; Hopkins, 2013; Oliver, 2002). As educators we face many familiar challenges, some of which have taken on new forms in recent years. What are the aims of medical education, how to further those aims using Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) for a student-centered experience? Where does learning happen? What role could and should technology play? How best can we support learning in a landscape in which the boundaries between formal and informal learning are blurring with the advent of social media?
To this end, we are delighted to welcome two of RCSI’s Instructional Designers, who are responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating processes and tools to enhance online learning for RCSI students and staff.
Building on their experiences at other institutions, Aileen & Pam will share their reflections on their work. They will illustrate their approaches to learning design and TEL technology, and provide some insight on how staff at RCSI can be supported by these new evolving educational roles.
Whatever your role or discipline at RCSI, your work no doubt will be affected by many of these challenges. These are the challenges, which inform much of the work of Instructional Designers. Come and meet Aileen Jackson & Pamela Wallace – Instructional Design heroes – on Wednesday, 11th February
We look forward to seeing you at the February “Show & TEL” event”
