We’ll go up to the Knockree Youth Hostel by bus on Tuesday evening (17:00) and return on Wednesday evening (~18:00).
Writing and Computational Biology Workshops – Wednesday 23 November 2016 at the Knockree Youth Hostel!
We have also organised a Writing workshop with Dr Marian Brennan and Prof. Niamh Moran, which will cover general writing skills, specific scientific writing, how to get a message across effectively, as well as specific hands-on skills including:
- Writing effective abstracts
- Constructing your hypothesis
- Figure presentation and effective legend writing
- Tips for writing your methods section
- How to write your results
- Writing a concise discussion
We have organised a Computational Biology workshop with Dr Ant Chubb , which will cover foundation level, hands-on introductions to the following:
- R (Rstudio)
- Python (Spyder)
- Cytoscape
- KNIME
Places are limited to twenty (20), so please book your place on the retreat by completing this form before Friday 4 November 2016.

Each student should bring their own laptop with them, with pre-installed required software. (Instructions will be provided closer to the time regarding necessary software.)
Forest walk
*Weather permitting, we are offering an optional waterfall walk. If taking part, please bring suitable walking/hiking shoes and waterproof (warm!) clothing. Packed lunches will be provided by the hostel. It’s a there-and-back walk from the hostel, through a forest, to the waterfall, so people can turn back if it’s too much for them.
