The Health Professions Education Centre is delighted to invite you to a lunchtime session that explores the landscape, benefits and challenges around the use and reuse of Open Educational Resources (OERs) for teaching and learning in Health Professions education.
The presentation, titled, Opening Doors to Digital Learning: Open Educational Resources (OER) for Medical Education, will be delivered by Catherine Bruen, Technology Enhanced Learning Manager, HPEC, in TR8, St. Stephen’s Green on Wednesday, 17th February, 1.10pm – 2.00pm. The session will also be recorded for playback.
This session will give an overview of the current state of play for Irish Higher Education with a look at the type of OERs that are freely available for use in undergraduate, postgraduate & clinical programmes at RCSI. OER has emerged as a concept with potential to leverage educational transformation, with positive incentives for academic engagement. While its educational value lies in the idea of using digital resources as a method of supporting self-directed web-based and resource based learning, the transformative power is the ease with which such resources, when digitised, can be discovered, used, and reused in a particular learning context – which raises the issue of the pedagogical relationship between the learner and the educator – and their role as curator of the educational experience.
The HPEC “Show & TEL” series are lunchtime sessions that look at current and emerging themes in the learning technology landscape and aims to highlight some of the opportunities available to Faculty for supporting the student experience at RCSI.
