The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules, has established an Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) to oversee research that involves Recombinant DNA, Infectious Agents and toxins at this institution.
All researchers (faculty, staff, students) or users of the facilities at RCSI who are currently using or contemplating use of recombinant DNA research must comply with these Guidelines. All protocols in which recombinant DNA will be used, regardless of the funding source, must be submitted to the Institutional Biosafety Committee for review.
The IBC is reviewing the use of infectious agents in addition to the use of recombinant DNA. We are currently revising our forms, guidelines and processes in preparation for this. Risk Management will continue to oversee chemical and biological safety.
