Pictured (L-R) are Dr Christopher Fearne, Minister for Health of Malta; Mr Paul Nolan, Associate Director for International Programmes, Surgical Affairs, RCSI; Mr Predrag Andrejevic, Consultant General Surgeon, Mater Dei Hospital; and two of the course attendees. RCSI’s Department of Surgical Affairs recently delivered the inaugural Intercollegiate Basic Surgical Skills Course in Malta in partnership with the Malta Postgraduate Medical Training Centre (MPMTC) and the University of Malta (UOM). The course was held at UOM and the Mater Dei Hospital. 16 Foundation Year doctors from Malta received instruction in basic surgical techniques during this intensive, two-day course. Senior RCSI faculty – Mr Brian Lane, Mr John Flynn and Mr Peter Naughton – delivered this training with the support of Mr John Furlong (Technician) and a local team including senior faculty and leaders from the MPMTC and technical staff from the UOM. The Minister for Health of Malta, Dr Christopher Fearne (pictured below), visited the course during one of the sessions. This course is part of a wider collaboration between RCSI, MPMTC and UOM that also includes the delivery of the MRCS Part A Examination.
