As part of the National Seminar Series funded by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, this seminar focuses on a pilot Peer Observation of Teaching project which was launched as collaboration between RCSI, DCU & Maynooth University during 2017.
Over six months participants from the three institutions engaged in cross-disciplinary and cross-institutional peer observation of teaching and reflection. The process was supported by workshops on reflection; reflective writing; and feedback.

This seminar will focus on key learning points from the implementation and evaluation of the project. We will hear the narratives of some of the participants involved,
and explore how cross-institutional and cross-disciplinary interaction can be encouraged, and how teaching faculty can be supported in both developing their practice,
and considering common and shared challenges.

We will also explore the relevance of such a project in the context of the Professional Development Framework, and consider how peer observation can scaffold and evidence educators’ reflections on their professional development journey.

We hope, by the end of the seminar, to have collectively agreed both the benefits and challenges of developing a multidisciplinary/multi institutional approach; and provide some recommendations to continue the learning from this initial pilot of a peer observation community of practice.
