
The School of Pharmacy was delighted to welcome BT Young Scientist winner Simon Meehan to RCSI, where he took part in the RCSI Research Summer School. Working with Dr. James Barlow (Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry) and Dr. Eoin Cotter (Pharmacy) Simon was able to further his research on naturally occurring antimicrobial compounds found in blackberry leaves, and apply new extraction and analysis methods to his work. Simon was also supported in this work by the School Technical Team (Peter Cully, Colin McElduff & Jim Slattery), and postgraduate student Fatemah Alsalman. Speaking of Simon’s work at RCSI Prof. Paul Gallagher said “The School of Pharmacy was delighted to host Simon Meehan who is a remarkable young pharmaceutical scientist which a very bright future.” Simon Meehan is representing Ireland in the European Union Contest for Young Scientists at the RDS this week.
