Background:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and driven Postdoctoral Researcher to join a translational research project focused on intratumoural drug delivery. This project is based on a novel patent protected thermoresponsive hydrogel technology, developed in RCSI, which has potential in a broad range of solid tumour applications. This technology has been licenced to a spin-out company of which Prof. Kelly is a founder (OncoLize) and the ambition for this next stage of the project is to bring the technology through a number of pre-clinical studies with a view to translating to First-in-Human studies and commercialising the technology.
The successful candidate will join a team led by Prof. Helena Kelly. The technical project work will entail formulation optimisation, and characterisation, pharmaceutical analysis, sterility studies, formulation stability testing and evaluation of raw materials. The role will also require you to work closely in collaboration with international partners who will be performing in vivo studies. You will also be doing preparation, packaging and supply of materials for pre-clinical testing, preparation of supporting documentation, and training of partner-researchers where necessary. Additionally, as a project with a spinout focus, the candidate will contribute to commercial deliverables of the project, including compilation of technical dossiers, technology transfer activities and supporting regulatory and procurement activities, as well as managing relationships with 3rd party suppliers. A successful outcome to this project may provide future career opportunities based in Leiden, the Netherlands where the OncoLize company is based, as the technology moves towards clinical translation.
Qualifications/Experience – (Essential):
- PhD degree in pharmaceutics, drug delivery, pharmaceutical/formulation science, chemical/biomedical engineering, or a related field
- Expertise in hydrogel formulation and material characterization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with evidence of strong scientific writing through publications
- Proven leadership skills and ability to plan, coach and motivate lab technicians and/or master students
- Attention to detail, thoroughness in work practices, and be able to demonstrate outstanding record keeping.
- Ability to work to deadlines and operate with flexibility in a busy and productive lab
- Evidence of Interest in translational research/commercialization
