Further information:
We have made considerable progress in mapping the digital competences required by students and staff in our HEIs (for example through the ‘All Aboard’ project funded by the National Forum), but to date we have been lacking a framework to look at how these competences fit into an organisational context. The Forum’s ‘Roadmap for Enhancement’ emphasises the need to build digital capacity at institutional level and highlights the role of Academic Departments as key units of change. This presentation  focuses on work being carried out at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre in Seville to map organisational digital capacity. The ‘Framework for Digitally Competent Educational Organisations’ (DigCompOrg) is a first step and can provide HEIs and/or academic departments with a means of self-reflection. The framework is currently being adapted for the schools sector and this will lead to the development of a Self-Assessment tool. How the ‘Framework’ could support the capacity building effort in Irish HEIs is considered in the light of work to date
