This session is aimed at Established Researchers/Principal Investigators and focusses on developing your skills to communicate through traditional media channels (tv, radio, print media) on health sciences research, to a consistently high standard. It will position you to capitalise on opportunities to promote specific research projects, as well as to make expert comment on newsworthy developments in health sciences research generally.
You will be equipped to give various media audiences – including the general public – an understanding of developments in health sciences research, their consequences and value , as well as some key insights into the extent and quality of research at RCSI
You will be able to discuss technical research issues through the media in a way that is immediately relevant and understandable to people who have no health sciences or research background – without compromising the integrity of the work.
During the module you will get a practical and logical approach to preparing for media interviews. You will also be involved in a number of practice interviews to become comfortable at expressing comments, opinions and explanations relating to your research, in a media environment that includes time constraints and questioning styles ranging from expert to uninformed.
This module does not presume any prior experience in giving media interviews.
