Creation of new Catering Quarter / Food Hall in Basement, 123 – key dates and information

Dear Staff,

As part of the ongoing development and investment in our St. Stephen’s Green Campus, the refurbishment and repurposing of the Basement area in 123 St. Stephen’s Green, creating a bespoke catering quarter for staff and students, is commencing in June 2017 and the project is due for completion for January 18.  This facility will incorporate a new catering kitchen and servery with approx. 200 seating capacity, a new café and lounge area, modern Student Union offices and break out space, and many other enhancements for both students and staff. See Architect design images below that provide an overview of the finished project.

To facilitate these works the following key information should be noted by all staff:

  • Friday 19th May 16.00 hours Coffee doc closed.
  • Sunday 21st May at 3pm – RCSI Gym and Sports facilities in the basement will close. There will be no access to the gym and basketball court in 123 thereafter for staff or students. Additional information regarding access to the new sports facilities in No 26 will follow in due course. Note: Ladies and Gents showers and changing rooms in the lower basement level will still be available and pre-arranged/ pre-booked access to the squash court will be available.
  • 22nd – 2nd June – Estate and Support Services, in conjunction with Student Services, will remove all fixtures and fittings etc from the basement area. There will be access restrictions in this
  • 5th June – 9th June – Access by Estate and Support Services only for investigations etc.
  • 12th June – December 17 – Construction project commences. Please see the Estate and Support Services webpage /portal for additional detail regarding the works and to see images regarding the new catering quarter / basement facilities.
  • Early January 2018 – opening of new Catering quarter.

Various elements of this project will involve disruptive works however consultation with the key stakeholders, SARA, Admissions, Student Services, Conference and Events, HR and others have commenced and will be ongoing throughout the project to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that the project has minimal impact on College activities, whilst still ensuring that the project is delivered on time.
