The 3U partnership has established 3U N-STEP (National Initiative in STEM Education and Practice) to advance teaching and learning in the area of STEM Education. The initiative has two strands: Strand 1 concerns research into the teaching and learning of STEM subjects at third level; Strand 2 concerns enquiry-based learning in Mathematics and Science Education.
The aim of Strand 1 of this project is to encourage research into teaching and learning at university level by setting up and administering a research fund. A funding call is now being issued in order to facilitate joint research projects on the teaching of STEM subjects at university level. We envisage that each successful project would typically involve researchers both from Education and STEM departments, with projects normally involving researchers from more than one of the partner institutions. This collaborative interdisciplinary approach will allow experts in educational research and those with subject-specific content knowledge to work together to investigate issues concerning teaching at third and fourth level.
Staff members who would like to find collaboration partners can register their interest at http://www.maths.nuim.ie/3UNSTEPform. A list of all interested parties and research areas will be available at http://www.maths.nuim.ie/3UNSTEPdata Tuesday, 2nd April. This list will be regularly updated.
