Dear Colleagues,
Due to unforeseen circumstances, emergency electrical works need to be undertaken by the ESB tomorrow evening where power to the 123 St Stephen’s Green building will be shut down for approximately 30 minutes. Therefore all staff, researchers and students will need to vacate the College by 5.30pm tomorrow, Friday 15th July. Estate and Support Services staff, with the assistance of Porters and Security staff will sweep the building and aid in evacuating the building.
In advance of the building closure all staff in 123 St Stephen’s Green and in Block B Ardilaun are requested to shut down their PCs to prevent any loss of any work. IT may need to shut down network access serving 123 and Block B staff. Staff in other SSG locations may see a brief network disconnect during this time.
The building will close at 5.30pm to facilitate the IT shutdown and to ensure that all staff have vacated the building. Thereafter the ESB need to do their work which is expected to be approximately 30 minutes and they are indicating that they will do this work at approximately 6pm. We have experienced power loss / shut downs in the past and at this time we are not expecting any issues. On completion of the electrical works the power will be reinstated and IT will restart servers and reinstate network connectivity.
The exact duration of the works is dependent on the ESB but at this time we envisage that the building should reopen on Friday evening. We understand the concern that an unscheduled shut down will cause to all but unfortunately these works are essential.
In advance, we thank you for your cooperation during the shutdown this Friday and we assure you that we are taking all relevant measures to minimise its impact. If there are any queries please contact Estates on 01 402 2290 and speak with Darren O’ Leary or Collette Power.
An additional detailed communication will follow next week regarding a scheduled electrical shut down over the August Bank Holiday weekend. This will result in the College closing on Friday 29th July at 7pm and remaining closed for the duration of the weekend, reopening on Tuesday 2nd August at 7am. There will be no access to the 123 building and only designated essential staff will be permitted to enter the building during these hours. Comprehensive communication regarding this will follow.
Kind regards,
Collette Power
