Now that your PDP is done and you’re clear on your development needs for this year, why not sign up for some of the variety of courses on offer for staff? We’ve recently scheduled a number of courses you might be interested in including:

Classroom Based

Learn some tips and tricks to make better use of your time both inside and outside work
     Project Management

Project Management Essentials

This course is designed to give participants a solid understanding of the key principles of project management from inception to delivery. Participation in the course will give staff a common project management language / vocabulary as well as a common way of thinking about and approaching any projects they are involved in.
   Mindfulness

Introduction to Mindfulness

Mindfulness is everywhere these days and for good reason – research shows it be a highly effective way of managing stress and improving your focus and concentration. These introductory sessions will give you a great overview of what mindfulness is and how simple techniques can make a big difference in your everyday life.
   Interview

 Interviewing Skills

Do you participate in interview panels or do other types of selection interviewing? This course will give you an understanding of how best to structure your questions to get the information you need from the candidate as well as giving you the opportunity to practice these techniques on the day. The course will also cover the legal aspects you need to be aware of as an interviewer.

If you can’t free up some time to come to a class,  Lynda.com is available to you 24/7 and has some recently added courses which may be useful including:

Twitter Essential Training – Are you interested in tweeting as a subject matter expert or to promote your team or research project? Have a look at this online course which will take you through all you need to know to get started.  

Presentations – Lots of people fear doing presentations but there are some really useful Lynda.com courses to help you with this. Have a look at:

Powerpoint Tips and Tricks for Business Presentations: This course lays out a practical framework for building and delivering presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint and covers tips and tricks for controlling elements in slide decks. The course demonstrates how to engage an audience, present data in meaningful ways, incorporate gestures, and manage question-and-answer sessions.  

Public Speaking Fundamentals: Develop the skills you need to prepare and deliver an outstanding speech or presentation. This course offers practical insights that can help presenters prepare, open, deliver, and close their speeches. Along the way, discover how to project confidence, storyboard a speech, take questions, respond with thoughtful answers, and develop the creative story that adds life to a speech.
