The Faculty of Public Health Medicine, RCPI is holding its Summer Scientific Meeting on Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 May 2012 at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, No.6 Kildare Street, Dublin 2.
This year the two-day Scientific Meeting features 21 separate lectures and presentations exploring a wide range of topical health issues, including:
- What determines the food choices we make?
- The cost of overweight and obesity on the island of Ireland
- Public Health concerns about increasing rates of elective caesarean sections
- Self-reported health of Polish people living in Ireland
- Disinfecting water distribution systems in healthcare facilities
- Neglected Tropical Diseases
This year’s Summer Scientific Meeting also features several high-profile international experts, including:
Dr Sevgi O. Aral, PhD, MA, MS
Dr Aral is the Associate Director for Science at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), USA. She is based in the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention.
Dr Aral’s research interests include social and behavioral aspects of sexually transmitted disease, epidemiology and prevention.
She is speaking on Thursday 23 May at 11.20am on the subject of Sexual Dynamics in the context of international health.
Professor Sir Muir Gray, CBE
Professor Sir Muir Gray is a Consultant in Public Health for the University of Oxford Hospitals NHS Trust. He is developing Better Value Healthcare, whose mission is to publish handbooks and development programmes designed to get more value from health care resources in England, and worldwide. Professor Gray is speaking on Wednesday 22 May at 2.00pm on the subject of ‘Third Healthcare Revolution’.
Professor Charles Normand
Professor Normand holds the Edward Kennedy Chair in Health Policy and Management in Trinity College Dublin. His interest in the economics of health started when he worked as the Principal Economist for Health and Social Services in the Northern Ireland Civil Service.
Professor Normand is speaking on Thursday 22 May at 2.15pm on the subject of ‘Priority setting and service delivery in health services’.
