Bladder control problems can be very embarrassing and adversely affect the quality of your life. As part of the Research Summer School in RCSI, a pilot study to investigate the effect of wearing a specially designed pair of shorts during exercise is being conducted in the School of Physiotherapy. The EVB Sport Shorts, as seen on Dragon’s Den, have been designed with compressive panels to provide uplift support to the pelvic floor muscles during exercise and with a pouch to hold a disposable pad to deal with leakage.
We are currently looking for volunteers to undertake an exercise session in the Movement Laboratory, School of Physiotherapy, on two occasions. On one visit you will be asked to wear a pair of support shorts and an ordinary pair of shorts on the other visit.
To take part in the study, you must be:
– Over 18 years of age
– Be at least 3 months postpartum
– Have a history of stress urinary incontinence requiring the use of a pad during exercise
– Be free from any medical condition that hinders your safe mobilisation and ability to exercise
If you are interested in participating in the study or would like to discuss it further, please contact Mary Boyd on 4022368 (Monday and Thursday’s) or email mboyd@rcsi.ie
Sincere thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Mary Boyd
