An e-book entitled ‘Translational Cancer Research: a practical and conceptual guide‘ will be published by Springer later this year. The concept for this book arose out of a ‘Masterclass in Translational Research’ which has been run for the last three years by Dr. Robert O’Connor, Lecturer in Biological Sciences in Dublin City University. Among the contributing lecturers to the 2013 Masterclass included Dr. Sinead Toomey from the Department of Medical Oncology in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and Mr. Keith Egan and Ms. Gillian Vale from Beaumont Hospital’s Cancer Clinical Trials Unit (CCTU) and Research Ethics Committee (REC) respectively;
Dr. O’Connor approached a number of masterclass lecturers and other professionals working in this field to contribute content to the book earlier this year.
Authors from RCSI and Beaumont Hospital who were delighted to write a chapter include: –
• Dr. Bryan Hennessy, Consultant Medical Oncologist -“The practical aspect of translational research in gynaecological cancer clinical trials”
• Dr. Sinead Toomey, Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Medical Oncology (RCSI) and Dr. Bryan Hennessy – “Mutational analysis methods in translational cancer research”
• Ms. Derval Kehily, Program Manager, CCTU with Co- Authors, Mr. Lorcan Gregorian, Clinical Data Manager, CCTU, and Ms. Joan Kehoe, Colorectal research nurse (RCSI) and Ms. Jo Ballot, St. Vincent’s University Hospital – “Initiation and monitoring of translational studies”
• Ms. Gillian Vale, Administrator, REC – “Informed consent , ethical and regulatory documentation”
Congratulations to all involved.
