Volunteers needed – Running Analysis Study

DO YOU HAVE 60 MINS TO SPARE TO VOLUNTEER FOR A RUNNING ANALYSIS RESEARCH PROJECT?

MSc (Research) student in the School of Physiotherapy, Colm Brannigan, is looking for 8 volunteer staff and students to come to the Movement Laboratory in 123 St. Stephens Green for 60 minutes to participate in a study entitled, ‘The effect of a novel footwear telemetry antenna system on spatiotemporal characteristics of running’.

To take part in this study you must;

• be a current student or staff member of RCSI over the age of 18 years,
• have a running shoe size of 6 (female), 9 or 10 (male),
• be free from fungal foot infections or symptoms like scaly, flaky or dry skin, or an itchy red rash between your toes.}
• be free from any medical condition which currently hinders your running e.g. lower limb muscle or joint pain etc.
• be a recreational or competitive runner able to run at speeds of up to 19.5 km/hour on a treadmill for 30-40 seconds.

You will be contacted by phone or email to check that you meet these criteria and you will be given more information about the study. If suitable, you will be given an appointment time to attend the Movement Laboratory on only one occasion for testing. This will last approximately 60 minutes. You will be given a pair of shorts, a fresh pair of socks and a pair of Nike Dart running shoes, and asked to run on a treadmill at speeds of 12.6 km/hr, 16.2 km/hr, and 19.5 km/hr with and without a wired F-Scan (Tekscan Inc) system attached. Running characteristics will be measured using a Vicon Motion Analysis system.
