Summary of Post
We are inviting applications for the role of Clinical Research Dietitian to engage with and participate in ongoing clinical research projects and trials at the Department of Gastroenterology at Beaumont Hospital.  This is a unique opportunity to work with a committed group of doctors and nurses to facilitate research focusing on patient related outcomes and analyses of interventions to prevent sarcopenia in patients with inflammatory bowel disease and cirrhosis.  Our primary project is studying impact of branched chain amino acid supplementation in patients with cirrhosis.  We are open to supporting applicants who wish to pursue relevant further postgraduate qualifications within this role.
Specifically, the duties of the post are:
  • Body composition analysis and thigh ultrasound of recruited subjects
  • Recording food diaries and functional muscle assessment of recruits (i.e. hand-grip strength)
  • Reviewing recruited patients to offer standard dietetic care and screening for malnutrition in keeping with guidelines
  • Recording compliance with and tolerance of supplements
  • Coordinating follow-up visits for research purposes including symptom tracking
Qualifications/Experience – (Essential):
  • Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Dietetics or a corresponding qualification in the field of science with a postgraduate degree in dietetics
Knowledge & Experience – (Desirable):
  • Experience in management of patients with chronic disease or malnutrition is required
  • Training in body composition analysis, thigh ultrasound and other assessments will be provided in-post
