About the post:

RCSI has been at the forefront of educating healthcare professionals since its foundation in 1784 as the national training and professional body for surgery. Today, it is Irelands only focused health sciences university, Ireland’s largest medical school and one of the leading health sciences institutions in the world.

The National Clinical Programme in Surgery represents a strategic initiative between RCSI and the Health Service Executive’s (HSE) Clinical Design and Innovation.

The aim of NCPS is to provide a framework for the delivery of safer, timely, accessible, more cost effective and efficient care for all surgical patients.  NCPS works closely with the other National Clinical Programmes, notably the Programme in Anaesthesia but also with Acute, Emergency Medicine, Paediatrics and Critical Care as well as Business intelligence and relevant stakeholders across the health system.

Programme Structure:

NCPS reports directly into both the RCSI Committee for Surgical Affairs (CSA) and the Director of Clinical Design and Innovation of the HSE and has close links with the office of the National Clinical Adviser Group Lead for Acute Operations.  The clinical programme team includes two Co-Leads along with six National Clinical Advisors (General Surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology, Plastic, Oral & Maxillofacial, Vascular) all of whom work part time for the programme, along with special interest project managers, programme Manager and administration support.  The programme also closely collaborates with the Transforming theatre programme, HSE business intelligence, NQAIS clinical and the department of surgical affairs in RCSI.
