  • Apply by date - March 31st @ 5pm
Job Title: Postdoctoral Researcher
Department: Chemistry
Reporting to: Dr. Darren Griffith
Location: ApJohn Laboratory, 123. St. Stephens Green, Dublin 2
Contract: 24 months
Remuneration: €40,000 – €50,000 depending on experience
Closing Date: 31st March 23

Summary of Post
A Science Foundation Ireland (SFI, FFP-P)) funded post-doctoral position is available in the Apjohn Laboratory, in the Chemistry Department of RCSI working under the supervision of Dr. Darren Griffith. Your primary role will be the synthesis and purification of bioactive organic ligands in high purity. Candidates should therefore be very comfortable with organic synthesis and purification of organic molecules.
You will be working on a medicinal inorganic chemistry project. There is an important need to better understand the multifaceted mechanism of action of Pt drugs and in particular the role that Pt(II) protein binding plays. This will help identify new druggable targets for the development of next generation Pt drugs. Furthermore the clinical success of existing Pt drugs is limited by intrinsic and acquired resistance. Strategies to sidestep Pt resistance are urgently required. This multidisciplinary project aims to develop Pt-based complexes that can be used successfully (i) to identify Pt(II) binding proteins via a novel metalloproteomic technique and (ii) as drug candidates that target and overcome Pt resistance.
This is a full-time position, funded for up to 24 months.
Specific Duties:
  • Synthesis of bioactive ligands in high purity
  • Supervision of undergraduate students
  • Coordinate and manage a data management plan
  • Support general lab setup as required
  • Support the preparation of scientific reports, publications and presentations as required
  • Presentation of records and results at meetings (internal and external) and during audits
  • Order and maintain stock of reagents
  • Other such duties as may be assigned from time to time
  • Complying with statutory legislation and Department rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety
  • Undergoing programmes of training and development as may be required from time to time
  • Representing the best interests of the Department/College at all times
