This week marks the annual November Conferring celebrations at RCSI. The Conferring ceremonies begin tomorrow, Thursday 16th November, with two graduation ceremonies at RCSI; undergraduate pharmacy, physiotherapy and medicine, as well as the diploma, masters and doctoral degree ceremonies.
On Friday, 17th November, at the Convention Centre Dublin (CCD), we will have the conferring ceremonies for our School of Nursing and Midwifery and Masters graduands including the MPharm programme and Institute of Leadership.
At the ceremony on Friday morning, the ninth honorary doctorate of RCSI will be awarded to The Honorable Mrs Catherine McGuinness. Judge Catherine McGuinness is a Member of Council of State, Patron of the Irish Refugee Council, Patron of the Irish Foster Care Association and Chair of Údarás NUI Gaillimh (Governing Body of NUI Galway). She was appointed as a Judge in the Circuit Court in 1994, the first woman to hold that office in Ireland, followed by appointments to the High Court in 1996 and the Supreme Court in 2000. She will be recognised with the honorary doctorate of RCSI in recognition of an illustrious and long career which includes singular contributions to the Irish legal and political systems, her interest in education and also her impact on Irish society as a lifelong activist.
As always, staff members are welcome to join in the celebrations and attend the ceremonies. Transport to the events in the Convention Centre on Friday 17th November, will be provided. For staff members who are unable to attend, the ceremonies will be live-streamed via the RCSI website rcsi.ie/liveconferring
The timings of the ceremonies are as follows:
Thursday 16th November
- Undergraduate Degree Conferring Ceremony, 11am – Desmond Auditorium, RCSI
- Diploma, Masters and Doctoral Degree Conferring Ceremony, 2pm – Desmond Auditorium, RCSI
Friday 17th November
- School of Nursing and Midwifery Conferring Ceremony, 11am* – Convention Centre Dublin
- Masters Degree Conferring Ceremony, 3pm* – Convention Centre Dublin
*Coaches will depart from outside the Fitzwilliam Hotel at 09.45am and again at 13.45. Return coaches will also be available.
