The EDI Unit is delighted to bring to you another series of Trans 101 trainings during November 2018.
This training is delivered by Gordon Grehan, Operations Manager at Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI). TENI seeks to improve conditions and advance the rights and equality of trans people and their families. Since partnering with TENI, RCSI has launched a new policy on Gender Identity and Expression, facilitated 7 Trans 101 trainings reaching 101 staff and hosted a lively pre-Pride party with more than 300 attendees supported by 30 RCSI staff and student volunteers.
The Trans 101 training is a two-hour, classroom-based session which includes an explanation of the language we use to differentiate between sex, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation as well as what life is like for a trans person living in Ireland. The first hour focuses on terminology and language. The second hour focuses on the lived experience. The aim of the training is to improve knowledge of the trans community, demystify any misunderstandings and build empathy. The trainings are open to all staff.
The trainings will be happening at the following times and locations:
Smurfit Building, Beaumont Hospital
- Thursday, 8 November, 12:00 – 14.00 in TR1
123 St Stephen’s Green
- Thursday, 1 November, 11.00 – 13.00, TR2
