TY students experience Transition to Health programme

The School of Physiotherapy welcomed 40 transition year students in February to participate in an annual two-day programme focused on healthy lifestyles in adolescence and beyond.

Coordinated by Louise Keating, Dr. Aine Ryan, and Clare Coyle, the programme gave TY students from around the country a flavour of a third-level learning experience. Areas of focus included exercise as medicine, musculoskeletal health, nutrition, building resilience by harnessing lessons from elite sport, understanding the impact of the body clock on health.

Students experienced practical learning through workshops on anatomy, balance assessment and simulation. 92% students rated the programme as ‘very good/excellent’ and 100% would recommend the programme. When asked what they enjoyed about the programme, students’ comments included ‘very good presentations and really enjoyable programme taught by really great professionals’, ‘I learned a lot and I made new friends’ and ‘I got to know what it would be like to go to RCSI’.

Thanks to all RCSI contributors (Dr. Helen French, Mary Boyd, Helen Heery, Dr. Annie Curtis, Clare Sullivan and Rebecca Kirrane) and our external experts (Dr. Olivia Hurley, IADT and Fiona Liu, AMNCH).
