Overview

The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Unit is pleased to offer Trans 101 trainings again in 2020.

Trans 101 training is a two-hour, classroom-based session which includes an explanation of the language we use to differentiate between sex, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation as well as what life is like for a trans person living in Ireland. The first hour focuses on terminology and language. The second hour focuses on the lived experience.  This training is delivered by Gordon Grehan, Operations Manager at Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI). TENI seeks to improve conditions and advance the rights and equality of trans people and their families.

Since partnering with TENI, RCSI has launched a new policy on Gender Identity and Expression, facilitated more than 25 Trans 101 trainings reaching 300 staff and hosted lively pre-Pride parties in 2018 and 2019 with more than 400 attendees supported by 40 RCSI staff and student volunteers (cumulatively).

Learning Outcomes

The aim of the training is to improve knowledge of the trans community, demystify any misunderstandings and build empathy.

Target audience

The training is open to all members of the RCSI community.
