Unconscious Bias Training

As recognised by our institutional Athena SWAN Bronze Award, RCSI has committed itself to deliver classroom based UB trainings as part of our 2018-2022 Athena SWAN Action Plan. By attending this training, you are helping to fulfil our institutional commitment to raising awareness of unconscious bias and taking steps to mitigate the unintended effects of bias. For those who are currently undertaking Athena SWAN departmental applications or hope to do so in future, attending this training will also support and highlight your department’s dedication and commitment to ensuring RCSI is a leader in best practice for equality and inclusivity standards.

Overview

This session will go beyond these previous trainings to further our awareness of unconscious bias manifestations using the SEEDS model and offer practical interventions we can apply in real-life situations to mitigate unintended consequences (such as nudge theory, self-reflection, processes as well as group and personal accountability) tailored to the RCSI environment.

Learning Outcomes

The aim is to get participants motivated and confident in applying strategies to help mitigate the impact of biases and work more consciously towards building inclusive cultures.
