This session is designed to give an overview of laboratory safety and chemical awareness to laboratory staff or others working with chemicals. The Laboratory Safety and chemical spill course will outline RCSI Management and staff duties under current safety legislation whilst aiming to provide clear understanding of chemical and biological agents, their hazards and effects on the body. The session will provide staff with an understanding of RCSI policy regarding chemical labels and the role of safety data sheets (SDS). Finally a brief over view on the management of chemical spills will take place.
The Risk Assessment element of the course aims to provide laboratory staff with an introduction to RCSI risk assessment process including a practical risk assessment completion.
Target Audience: This course is mandatory course for all new laboratory staff.
