Cell Signalling and Molecular Medicine

(as part of Research Fundamentals)

This module is designed to give postgraduate students a solid understanding of basic cell signalling mechanisms relevant to the molecular basis of disease.

Outline

This course will cover a wide range of topics including,

  • How cells sense and respond to changes in their extracellular environment
  • How signals are rapidly propagated and amplified within the cell
  • How signals regulate the expression of cellular proteins
  • How proteins can be modified to fine-tune cellular responses
  • How cell signaling mechanisms can become disrupted in conditions of disease
