To be an effective manager it is necessary to find the right balance between supporting and challenging team members. Motivating and energising staff, addressing issues when they arise and getting the best out of people are key elements of a rounded and effective leadership and management approach.
Coaching by line managers has consistently been shown to be one of the most highly effective workplace practices and is an important competency for anyone in a management role.
This course will
- enable participants to understand how coaching can support and empower individuals to develop themselves and their careers.
- introduce the skills, models and tool kit managers need to perform effectively as coaches in the workplace.
The course will be delivered by a highly experienced coach from the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education (LFHE). The LFHE have extensive experience of facilitating this type of training in the 3rd level sector and are very familiar with the structures and challenges within Higher Education.
Key areas to be addressed include:
- The role of coaching and the benefits it brings to the workplace
- Appropriate techniques to conduct a coaching conversation
- How coaching can greatly enhance effective feedback and delegation
- Learn how coaching skills and techniques can fully engage individuals and teams
The workshop will include demonstrations from an experienced & qualified coach, peer coaching practice: coaching and being coached and practical coaching exercises.
