Project Management Essentials

This course is designed to give participants a solid understanding of the key principles of project management from inception to delivery. Participation in the course will give staff a common project management language / vocabulary as well as a common way of thinking about and approaching any projects they are involved in.

At the end of the course attendees will understand:

  • The structure and stages of a project
  • What exactly the project manager is required to do i.e. the roles and responsibilities of the project manager
  • How project plans are prepared and implemented
  • How to prioritise tasks and manage timelines
  • The importance of keeping the project on track through strong risk and issue management
  • How to review and monitor progress within timescales and budgets
  • How to identify the needs of sponsors and stakeholders effectively
  • How to correctly close down a project at completion

On completion of the course participants will be given a Project Management Toolkit with suggested documents and templates to help them apply what they have learned.

Target Audience: Any staff interested in learning practical skills to successfully manage and participate in a project.
