Descriptive statistics are numbers that are used to summarise and describe the characteristics of a set of data. Data refers to the information that has been collected from an experiment, a survey, a historical record, etc. In this session we will explore some measures that are commonly used to describe a data set: measures of central tendency and measures of variability (or dispersion).
