Searching the Prior Art for an Invention

Goal: Enabling RCSI researchers to determine the novelty and freedom to operate of their inventions
After this course, the researcher should be able to:
- Understand the importance of non-patent prior art
- Identify and use the most relevant patent databases
- Understand how to read patent claims and specifications
- Understand the difference between pending and granted patents
- Use basic Boolean search terms and proximity operators
- Search by classification number
- Understand how to use EP Register/US Public Pair to check prosecution status
Target Audience: Post docs and PI’s new to commercialisation
Duration: 1.5 hours
Location: PC room, Library no. 26 York Street. (Max. number of places is 32)
