Career Coaching for Researchers

Where is your research career headed? Have you clear direction and a goal?

More importantly, how are you going to get there? Maybe it’s time for a change of emphasis or direction?

When we buy a new phone, laptop or car most people want to make the best choice and invest time and energy finding out the options, looking at the pros and cons, comparing models, features and prices.  The same is true for careers – yet many of us don’t know how to make those “best choices” in the context of a research career. Exactly how does a researcher make advances, get promoted or build influence? Maybe you’re interested in what options are available for change or how to effectively balance your work with other life or family commitments?

Whether you want to:

  • clarify a plan for taking the next step
  • review your CV
  • identify what you’re really good at
  • take a wider look at career choices
  • learn new skills
  • explore how to make a complete career change…

… maybe you could start with a confidential one to one conversation in a Research Career Development Coaching Session.

Over a working lifetime, it is predicted that most people will have around 14 different jobs and possibly several total changes of career. Why not avail of one of these sessions as a springboard for your next step?

The coach for these sessions, Dr. Margaret Collins, has over 20 years experience working at various universities and research institutes. She has been a postdoc herself, managed teams of postdoc researchers, trained PhD students and juggled with the complex mixture of teaching, research and administrative responsibilities.

This course maps to Domain B (Personal Effectiveness) on the Vitae Researcher Development Framework.

1 CPD credits awarded. Please contact staff_l&d@rcsi.com  if you need a certificate of attendance.
